Artists associated with World of Art - Bakst, Benua, Bilibin, Dobuzhinskii, Lansere, Ostroumova-Lebedeva, Serov and Somov - leave Zolotoe Runo accusing its publisher Riabushinskii of encouraging the individualistic arbitrariness of radical innovators in art. Many of the secessionists would shortly join Apollon, Zolotoe Runo's main rival established in St Petersburg in October 1909. This split signalled the end of Zolotoe Runo, which would cease publication in 1910 when the last numbers for 1909 were printed.
