November. First performance of the ballet entitled Pavil'on Armidy (Armida's Pavilion) in the Mariinskii Theatre in St Petersburg. The libretto and stage sets were produced by Benua, the music written by Nikolai Cherepnin. Benua's co-operation with the young ballet-master Mikhail Fokin ensured the success of the ballet, which subsequently opened Diaghilev's First Russian Season in Paris in 1909.
