Vereshchagin exhibits his 1812 War Series in St Petersburg. In the following years, the exhibition was displayed in Riga, Warsaw, Vil'no (Vilnius), Helsingfors (Helsinki), Paris, Berlin, Dresden, Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Copenhagen, Leipzig, London, Christiania (Oslo) and the United States. However, the works were found to be insulting to French national sentiment, and their display in the Russian section of the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 was not permitted.
