Stasov in an article published in the newspaper Novosti (The News) stages an attack on the Academy and defends Repin's Ivan Groznyi i syn ego Ivan 16 noiabria 1851 goda, (Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan on 16 November 1581) against the accusations by professor Landtsert whose lecture to the Academy's students was published in the official Vestnik iziashchnykh iskusstv (The Messenger of Fine Arts).
