20 May-1 October. The first all-Russian arts and industry exhibition opened in Moscow. A special section represented the development of Russian art from 1855 until 1880 and included Ivanov's sketches for The Appearance of Christ to the People. An illustrated catalogue, compiled by Nikolai Sobko and modelled on the catalogues published by F.-G. Dumas in Paris since 1879, was published for that exhibition.
