Until 1887. Khudozhestvennyi zhurnal (The Art Journal) published in St Petersburg by N.A. Aleksandrov. Although the journal supported the Peredvizhniki during its first two years and included articles by Ivan Kramskoi and Vasilii Perov, it subsequently switched to conservative views on art. Instead of woodcuts, the journal used advanced reproduction techniques such as phototypes and (from 1885) photoengravings.
