Until 1878. The journal Pchela (The Bee) published in St Petersburg. The fist issue contained an article by Stasov on Vasilii Vereshchagin. Adrian Prakhov (Profan), who became the editor of the art section of the journal later that year, aimed at presenting an objective view of the development of Russian art and argued that the opposition of the Academy and the Peredvizhniki was superficial and did not reflect the nature of their art. However, Prakhov's article, entitled 'Inaugural Lecture read by Adrian V. Prakhov, Professor of History of the Arts in the Imperial Academy of Arts, 16 September 1875' was sharply criticised by Stasov.
