British art critic J. Beavington Atkinson publishes An Art Tour to Northern Capitals of Europe, also known as An Art Tour to Russia. During his travels in Russia in 1870 Atkinson visited the Hermitage and the Kremlin, observed the people and the landscape of the country and became acquainted with the Russian school of art. The book became known in Russia and was reviewed by Stasov in 1874.
