Several of the works in the Turkestanskaia seriia (Turkestan Series) of paintings by Vasilii Vereshchagin, devoted to the Russian conquest of Central Asia, were exhibited in St Petersburg at an exhibition of the ethnography of Turkestan. The exhibition included: Opiumoedy (Opium Eaters), Bacha i ego poklonniki (Bacha And His Admirers), Posle udachi (After a Victory), Posle neudachi (After a Defeat).
